Safety in Moscow

Contrary to many Western news agencies, Russia is no more dangerous than any other European capital. Of course it would be wrong to say that there is no crime in Moscow, and some teachers have had mobile phones stolen, as have countless Russians. However, this has usually been late at night and not in the downtown area of Moscow, but rather whilst walking around in the suburbs and talking on their phones. Obviously, being careful is something that you should be in the company of complete strangers - as you would be in any other European country.
